How to improve higher education in Sindh?

If we look at the Israeli countries of the world, we will realize that their development depends on analytical and scientific basis to solve the problems encountered in daily life. Whenever we talk to a professor from a developed country, they always say that you should look for problems around you. When we have found the problem, many solutions appear on the basis of research.

For example, we all see everyday that after running the water motor, the tank fills up. How much water and electricity is wasted, but we don't think to save that loss by installing a simple 200 rupees lever sensor. 36 years ago, when I passed engineering and got hired as a lecturer in Mehran University, at that time the field salary and earnings were much higher than the salary of a lecturer. Coincidentally, I was sitting next to an elderly man and the conversation came up. I liked the speech of this elder, in which he said that Money Saved is Money Earned, which means that if you earn millions of rupees, but if you do not save, then you have not earned anything. This is the situation of our society today that we do not solve anything by ourselves.

Our higher education institutions should always think about how we can save energy. How do we increase agricultural production? How can we reduce road accidents? We invent materials to keep our buildings cool without AC. How do we save water from being wasted? The role of the teacher is important for such thinking. The major responsibility for improvement in higher education falls on the shoulders of teachers, unfortunately we have mostly aspirants in the teaching profession who want to go abroad or do CSS or casual duties. They are curious. This means that the teaching job of a higher education institution is used as a temporary platform. While the teaching profession is called Highly Demanding sector, in which Dedication Commitment as well as mannerism and teacher's body language are important. Two types of teachers are considered in backward countries. There are those who go to the class only to complete the duty, there are other teachers who come to impart knowledge or learning and they consider teaching as their passion. These teachers are such that their one sentence transforms the life of the students. These teachers while teaching students their concept.

They clear, they encourage students that you have a lot of potential, you re-assess yourself daily and re-invent yourself. For this, it is very important that the selection of our teachers and after that quality training should be done. If you look at the good educational institutions of Pakistan, only those in which the teachers maintain a high quality level are ahead in the ranking. Another problem is the intake in our higher educational institutions. We should think that every student from the educational institutions of developed countries is successful. The special reason for this is the Aptitude of this child. Nature has given every child and every human being some ability and talent, but in our society we try to force them to become doctors, engineers or other fields, due to which their natural abilities die. We must have good engineers and doctors, but also good teachers, good lawyers, good artists, good journalists, good philosophers, good economists. We have a student level in each class that varies greatly on a scale of one to ten, you will find 20% of the best students in the class. Again 40% average students will be found and the remaining 40% will be below average.

However, we need to take the following steps to improve higher education.

1: Quality selection of teachers and then proper training

2: Introducing zero semester or foundation course to bring the entire class of students at par

3: Conducting short courses to improve soft skills of students

4: Industry advising in every department to increase industrial collaboration Creating board

5: Introducing international exchange program

6: Providing cooperation learning facility to students

7: Introducing problem and project based learning in every subject

8: Higher education institutions and their experienced senior graduates of Alumina on regular basis. Conducting lectures and taking advantage of their experience

9: Bringing students closer to national and international professional organizations for professional development

10: Introducing Industrial Research Chairs in each department.
